Companion (the old Exemption!)

These are a wonderful starting point and great fun!  .  You will usually find them dotted around the country in the summer and we strongly advise you to give them a try.  You will meet other doggy people and have a good day out!

Your dog does not need to be Kennel Club registered for these.

 Open

Any dog may enter these (including Champions).  They vary in size, some of the established breed clubs hold these specifically for Rottweilers and do attract a large entry.  More pressurised than exemption shows but another excellent starting point for your potential show career.

Your dog can work up to two awards in Open Shows (those these hold in the Championship Shows on the point system), the Junior Warrant and the Certificate of Merit.

 Junior Warrant

Your dog must be between 6 and not exceeding 18 months and a total of 25 point must be gained. A minimum of 3 points must be won at from Championship Shows where Challenge Certificates for the breed are on offer and a minimum of 3 points won at Open Shows or Championship Shows where Challenge Certificates are not offered for the breed.

Championship Shows - 3 points for each 1st place in a breed class.
Open Shows (or Ch. Shows without CC's) - 1 point for each 1st place in a breed class.

Certificate of Merit

You must gain 25 points, In General and group Open shows, a minimum of 5 points must be won in group competition. the scale is as follows:

Five points for Best in show

Four points for Single group Best in Show

Group placings will obtain the following points:

1st-four points, 2nd- three points, 3rd two points & 4th -one point

One point for BEST AVNSC. (AVNSC Hound,Gundog, etc Winner of Overall BEST AVNSC.

One point for Best of breed

Championship.

Kennel Club Challenge Certificates are only on offer at Championship shows.  A dog must win three CC certificates under three different judges to be “made up” i.e. gain champion status.  There is no limit to the amount of CC’s a dog can have but he will require the three to be made up.

These do attract very large entries and the atmosphere is much more pressurised however the more you do, the more relaxed you will become!

If you are starting out, let us know and we'll offer you some moral support!  We remember what it was like when we started showing and know that encouragement goes a long way!
