British handling is much more of a freestyle method!

The dog is encouraged to stand centrally in front of the handler with the aid of a bait bag and usually walked into position.

Nearly all handlers use a bait bag but some will use treats in their pockets but hold the bait centrally to keep the dog aligned.  This is entirely your choice but remember to be consistent.

Once the dog is aligned his attention is kept by feeding with the liver.

Natalie shows free standing without a bait bag here but she is using a clear signal to Otto by using her hand that he must stay - back to consistency!

 British Handling....

A style all of it's own!

This was primarily developed by Larry and Judy Elsden (Chesara) as they were the first people to begin showing Rottweilers in the UK.  As they used to show Boxers, they decided that the method of handling used for that breed would not suit Rottweilers so they developed the free standing method using a bait bag.
